Recorded in the acoustically rich sanctuary of Shadyside Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh, PA, Inspired By... is a celebration of musical lineage, artistic imagination, and the timeless power of chamber music. This 2020 recording features two original works written expressly for IonSound Project by contemporary composers Jonathan Kolm and Elisenda Fábregas.

Each work pays tribute to a master of the past. Jonathan Kolm's piece titled “Trio” is inspired by Johannes Brahms’ famous clarinet trio, and Elisenda Fábregas’ piece titled “Masks” is inspired by Ludwig van Beethoven’s equally famous chamber trio. In addition to these newly commissioned works, this CD also includes the aforementioned pieces by Brahms and Beethoven for you to enjoy.

Together, these two pieces form a thoughtful dialogue between tradition and innovation — a musical bridge spanning centuries. This album is for listeners who love the classical canon, but are curious about where it might lead next.
